Merrow Border Embroidered Patches for Bulk Brand Programs

Merrow border embroidered patches are physical embroidered emblems finished with a raised, wrapped edge. LOVECOLOUR develops custom patches for apparel brands, uniform suppliers, promotional product companies and distributors. For a wholesale order, the border needs as much attention as the logo inside it: it affects the finished outside size, the space available for artwork and how consistently the design can be reproduced. The minimum order quantity is 100 pieces.

Send us your artwork, intended placement and quantity by design. We can review the shape, border color, text spacing and attachment method before preparing a sample.

Is a Merrowed Edge Right for Your Design?

A merrowed edge works well when the raised border is an important part of the patch’s appearance. Circles, ovals, rectangles and many shield designs are suitable starting points. The finished outline still needs review: sharp inward corners, narrow projections and complex silhouettes may call for an adjusted shape or a different edge finish.

For example, a round emblem with curved lettering needs enough space between the text and wrapped edge. On a shield emblem, the bottom point and changes in direction should be checked on a physical sample. If following an irregular logo silhouette is more important than having a raised border, a precision-cut edge may be the better choice. Learn more about our embroidery process.

What Should a Wholesale Buyer Confirm Before Quotation?

Specification Why it matters What to provide
Finished outside size The wrapped border is part of the patch’s overall footprint. Maximum width and height including the finished border.
Artwork and text Small text and curved lettering need enough space inside the edge. Original artwork and wording that must remain clearly readable.
Shape Curves, corners and points affect the finished border. Proposed outline and any details that cannot be changed.
Border and thread colors Consistent colors matter across uniforms, product lines and repeat orders. Color references and an approved sample when matching is critical.
Attachment method The finished patch must suit the item receiving it. Sew-on, iron-on or hook-and-loop requirement and receiving material.
Order breakdown Multiple logos, sizes or colors can affect sampling, sorting and price. Quantity for each design and any special packing instructions.

If your artwork contains fine letters or details near the perimeter, send it for artwork review at the intended finished dimensions.

Does the Finished Patch Size Include the Border?

For an accurate factory quotation, specify the finished outside dimensions, including the merrow border. Then check whether the remaining area is large enough for the artwork. Two suppliers may both quote a patch at the same nominal width while leaving different amounts of visible space for the logo and text.

This is especially important for uniform and apparel programs, where patches must fit a defined placement area. Give your decorator’s maximum available width and height rather than an approximate patch size. The proposed outside dimensions and design area can then be checked together during sampling.

How Close Can Curved Text Sit to a Merrowed Edge?

There is no single spacing measurement that suits every design. Font shape, letter size, stitch direction, finished patch dimensions and border construction all affect readability. Text arranged around a circular emblem may appear spacious on a screen but feel crowded once the physical stitches and wrapped edge are added.

During artwork review, we examine the small lettering, logo proportions and distance to the border at actual size. Depending on the design, a practical adjustment may be to move the text inward, enlarge the patch or simplify the lettering. If very fine detail is essential, compare embroidery with our woven process before approving the final construction.

Choose a Border Color That Works Across Your Product Range

A border that matches the background gives a quieter outline. A contrasting border makes the shape more prominent on a uniform or merchandise item. For a brand program involving several garments, check the sample against each receiving fabric: the same border color can appear different on a dark jacket and a light-colored cap.

Provide Pantone references when available, but assess important shades using actual thread and a physical sample. Screens, fabric and thread can show different appearances. For repeat orders, keep the approved sample, final artwork and color references together as the production reference.

Merrowed Border or Precision-Cut Edge?

Buying priority Merrowed border Precision-cut edge
Visual result Raised, wrapped frame around the patch Edge follows a more detailed outer contour
Typical shape fit Regular and moderately shaped outlines, subject to sample review Intricate or irregular silhouettes, subject to process review
Main approval check Appearance around curves, corners and shield points Cut-line position and edge appearance

The border choice should follow the design. Buyers developing several patch styles for one collection can explore our broader custom patches range rather than applying the same edge construction to every logo.

OEM Development: From Artwork to an Approved Patch

  1. Artwork and application review: Share the logo, finished outside dimensions, intended product and quantity per design.
  2. Construction review: Confirm whether the outline suits a merrowed border, together with the border color, thread colors and backing.
  3. Proof and physical sample: Check the lettering, border, dimensions and appearance on the receiving item. Sample production takes approximately 3–5 days.
  4. Final approval: Record the approved artwork, sample and order breakdown before bulk production.
  5. Bulk production and inspection: Produce against the approved specifications, inspect the patches and prepare them in standard packaging. Bulk production takes approximately 7–10 days.

Project timing should be confirmed with the final design and order requirements. Review our sample approval process when planning a new OEM embroidered patch project.

Bulk Quality and Repeat Order Consistency

For merrow border patches, quality checks should cover more than the front logo. Compare border appearance around curves and points, finished outside dimensions, small text, thread colors, backing, quantities by design and packing. A sample approved for one size or shape does not automatically approve another variation.

If you expect repeat orders, retain the final production artwork, approved physical sample, border color reference, backing specification and packing instructions. Identify any changes before releasing a later order. Learn more about LOVECOLOUR’s quality control approach.

What Affects the Wholesale Price?

The minimum order quantity is 100 pieces. Finished dimensions, stitch count, embroidery coverage, border construction, backing, quantity and packaging requirements all influence the quotation. A bulk order with one logo and one border color is different from a program with several logos, colorways or separately packed departments.

Provide the quantity for each variation so the quote reflects the actual production and packing work. For an accurate supplier comparison, use the same outside size, artwork, border, backing and quantity. You can also review our pricing and MOQ information.

  • Bag and accessory brands: Match the finished patch size to a product panel and its attachment method.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a merrow border embroidered patch?

It is an embroidered fabric patch with a raised, wrapped stitched edge around its perimeter. The border forms part of the finished outside size.

Can you make a shield patch with a merrowed edge?

Many shield designs can be reviewed. Approve a physical sample to check how the border turns around the sides and bottom point.

Can every custom shape have a merrowed border?

No. Deep notches, sharp inward turns and narrow projections may need an adjusted outline or a precision-cut edge.

How is a merrowed border different from a stitched imitation border?

A wrapped edge goes around the patch perimeter. A stitched imitation is made on the face of the patch. Confirm the expected construction using a physical reference and approved sample.

How much space should I leave between lettering and the border?

It depends on the font, finished patch size and stitch layout. Send the artwork and dimensions so readability can be checked in the proof and physical sample.

Can the border and logo use different colors?

Yes. Specify both color requirements. For important brand shades, review actual thread and approve a physical sample.

What is the MOQ?

The minimum order quantity is 100 pieces. If your project includes multiple designs, sizes or border colors, provide the quantity for each variation when requesting a quote.

How long do samples and bulk production take?

Sample production takes approximately 3–5 days, and bulk production takes approximately 7–10 days. Confirm the schedule for your final artwork, order requirements and required delivery date.

What packaging is used?

Standard packaging is provided. If your uniform or promotional program requires individual packing, labels or sorting by department, include those requirements in your inquiry for review and quotation.

What information should I send for an OEM quotation?

Send your artwork, finished outside dimensions, quantity per design, border and thread color references, backing, receiving product, any special packing needs, destination and required date.

Request a Bulk Quote

Send your logo and tell us how many patches you need for each design. With an MOQ of 100 pieces, we can review border suitability, finished size, colors, backing and sample requirements before preparing a project quotation. Start your custom patch project.

Before it is quoted

What applies to every custom order.

These are the general rules for custom work from this factory, not figures for this item. Where the specification above carries a buying or lead-time note for this product, that note is the one that applies to it.

01

Artwork review

Logo proportion, small text, fine lines, stitch direction, density, thread colour, border, final size and backing are checked at the finished size before anything is quoted. If the artwork does not suit the process, we say so and propose the size, the simplification or the process that will hold it.

02

Sample approval

A physical sample is produced and approved before bulk, and the approved sample becomes the production standard for that run and for every reorder. Custom samples are usually chargeable.

03

Minimum order

A standard MOQ applies to each product; for many custom items it starts at around 100 pcs, with limited flexibility by process and order structure. Below the standard MOQ the unit price can rise, so the figure is confirmed for your specification rather than published as one number.

04

Lead time

Bulk production usually takes 7–12 days after artwork approval. Rush orders are reviewed case by case against capacity, material, process, artwork status, sample requirements and shipping method, and are not promised before that check.

05

Inspection

Colour matching, logo proportion, small-text clarity, stitching and thread colour, dimensions, backing, material, quantity and packing are compared with the approved sample, and how deep the inspection goes follows the risk of the order.

06

Packing & shipping

Individual, OPP or custom bag, backer card, barcode, SKU label, carton mark, retail, neutral and white-label packing — packed for the route the goods take after the factory.
