Keep the silhouette recognizable
The outside edge often does more work than a buyer expects. A distinctive hairstyle, ears, hat or pose can identify a character even before its face is visible. The outline also needs to work with the keyring connection and finished edge. Very thin projections may need adjustment in the production drawing.
