Types of Custom Motorcycle & Biker Patches We Manufacture

Different motorcycle patches serve different purposes. A large jacket back patch needs visual impact and structural stability, while a small name patch requires readable lettering. Choosing the correct construction helps the finished patches look consistent and remain practical to attach.

1. Custom Motorcycle Back Patches

Large motorcycle back patches are designed for the back panels of biker vests, denim cut-offs, motorcycle jackets and club apparel. They commonly feature a central emblem, motorcycle artwork, wings, skulls, typography or an approved riding group logo.

These larger designs are particularly suitable for embroidery because raised thread creates a recognizable textile texture. We review the overall patch dimensions, embroidery coverage, fabric stability and border construction before preparing a sample.

For very dense designs, we also consider thread weight and stitch distribution to reduce unnecessary stiffness or distortion.

2. Custom Biker Rocker Patches

Motorcycle rocker patches have curved or arched shapes and are often positioned above or below a central back emblem. The most familiar versions are top rockers and bottom rockers used as part of motorcycle club patch layouts.

Rocker patches can display a club name, chapter identification, riding group name or other approved text. Their curvature, finished width and letter spacing should be considered together rather than treated as unrelated dimensions.

Important customization details include:

  • Top rocker and bottom rocker shapes
  • Curved lettering and consistent spacing
  • Custom background and border colors
  • Matching dimensions within a patch set
  • Traditional merrowed edges or custom laser-cut contours
  • Sew-on backing for permanent vest attachment

3. Motorcycle Club Logo & Center Patches

A motorcycle club center patch carries the main identity of a riding organization. Designs may include a shield, mascot, custom typography, motorcycle illustration or a combination of symbols chosen by the club.

We can review an existing authorized design or assess new artwork for production. For complex center emblems, the embroidery plan may require adjustments to fine lines, small lettering and stitch direction while keeping the approved visual identity.

We manufacture artwork supplied or authorized by the customer. Club names, trademarks and distinctive organizational insignia should only be reproduced with the appropriate permission.

4. Custom Biker Name Patches & Chest Badges

Personalized biker name patches are used for rider names, nicknames, club roles, membership identifiers and decorative garment details.

Common shapes include rectangular name strips, small curved badges, circular emblems and custom contours. Depending on the design, embroidered or woven construction may be appropriate.

For club orders containing different names, buyers can provide a spreadsheet listing the exact spelling, quantities, patch dimensions and any individual variations. This helps separate personalized components from the shared club artwork.

5. Motorcycle Rally, Touring & Event Patches

Custom motorcycle rally patches are suitable for touring events, motorcycle festivals, anniversary rides, charity rides, club gatherings and souvenir merchandise.

Popular creative directions include vintage motorcycle artwork, route illustrations, mountains, flags, event dates, destination names and commemorative emblems.

For promotional merchandise programs, the same design may be produced in several sizes or colors. Event organizers should confirm artwork approval and the required delivery date early, especially when multiple designs or special packing are involved.

6. Motorcycle Apparel & Riding Gear Patches

Motorcycle-themed patches are not limited to traditional leather vests. They can also be used on denim jackets, casual riding apparel, backpacks, luggage, caps, workwear and merchandise collections.

For fashion or branded accessories, material selection can be more flexible. Embroidered patches provide classic texture, woven patches suit fine details, PVC rubber offers molded relief, and PU leather delivers a different visual finish.

For more design possibilities, explore our custom embroidered patch collection.

Custom Three-Piece Motorcycle Club Back Patch Sets

A three-piece motorcycle back patch set typically contains a top rocker, center emblem and bottom rocker. Some authorized designs also include separate small identifiers or supplementary badges.

The components should be developed as one coordinated layout. A correctly proportioned center emblem can still look unbalanced when the rockers are too wide, too narrow or curved differently from the intended vest placement.

Top Rocker: Club or Group Identification

The top rocker is usually the upper curved patch. Its shape depends on the text length, letter height and desired arc. Longer names may require additional width or revised spacing to remain legible.

Center Patch: Main Emblem

The center patch is the main visual element. We consider its outline, minimum lettering size, background fabric, embroidery density and relationship to the rocker pieces.

Bottom Rocker: Location or Additional Text

A bottom rocker can display approved regional or organizational text. Its curvature should visually complement the top rocker and central emblem.

How to Prepare a Complete Club Patch Set

  1. Provide the authorized artwork for all components.
  2. Specify the finished width and height of each individual patch.
  3. Share the intended vest size or a photograph of the garment back panel.
  4. Confirm background colors, thread colors and border finishing.
  5. List any variations such as chapter names or personalized rider names.
  6. Approve the overall layout and individual patch specifications before bulk production.

Production insight: A rocker patch is not simply a straight name strip bent into a curve. The arc changes the distribution of letters, border geometry and the space required around the wording. Reviewing the artwork at finished size helps identify problems before embroidery digitizing.

We also recommend keeping an approved specification record for repeat orders. This is especially useful when a club adds new members later and needs matching name badges or replacement components.

Embroidered vs. Woven vs. PVC vs. Leather Motorcycle Patches

There is no single best material for every motorcycle patch. The right option depends on design complexity, patch size, intended surface, appearance and method of attachment.

Material comparison for custom motorcycle patches
Patch Type Appearance & Strengths Recommended Applications
Embroidered Raised thread texture, traditional badge appearance and strong visual definition for bold lettering and logos. Club back patches, rocker patches, vest badges and motorcycle apparel.
Woven Smoother surface with the ability to reproduce smaller lettering and more intricate line details. Small chest badges, detailed artwork and apparel labels.
PVC Rubber Molded 2D or 3D relief, defined color sections and a surface that is easy to wipe clean. Backpacks, removable gear badges, riding accessories and selected apparel applications.
PU Leather Leather-like appearance with branding effects determined by the chosen material and decoration process. Fashion jackets, casual apparel, bags and decorative labels.
Printed Fabric Useful for designs containing gradients, photographic artwork or numerous small color transitions. Event souvenirs and complex graphic merchandise.

Embroidered Motorcycle Patches: The Traditional Choice

Rectangular South Bay embroidered patch with SB lettering and colorful stripes

Embroidery is often the preferred construction for traditional biker back patches and rockers. It gives letters, emblems and borders a recognizable stitched appearance.

However, embroidery has practical limits. Very small lettering, extremely thin outlines and photographic detail may not reproduce clearly at the requested finished size. Rather than forcing every design into embroidery, we assess the artwork and recommend adjustments where necessary.

Learn more about our embroidery manufacturing process.

Woven Motorcycle Patches: Better for Fine Detail

Close-up of a round custom woven university emblem patch with navy blue, gold and red details

Woven patches use interlaced threads to create a flatter surface. They are particularly useful when a biker logo contains fine outlines, compact wording or other details that would become crowded in embroidery.

They offer a different texture from traditional embroidered back patches, so buyers should decide whether detail reproduction or a raised stitched appearance is more important.

Explore custom woven patches and our woven manufacturing guide.

PVC Rubber Motorcycle Patches: For Bags & Removable Gear

Green shield-shaped emergency biohazard PVC patch with yellow and white details

Custom PVC biker patches use a molded rubber-like structure with raised and recessed areas. They work well for bold graphics, selected outdoor accessories and equipment where a wipe-clean surface is useful.

PVC is not an automatic replacement for embroidered club back patches. Its appearance, weight, flexibility and attachment method are different and must be considered before selecting it for a garment.

For gear with compatible attachment panels, a custom PVC patch with hook-and-loop backing can offer a removable identification option.

See our custom PVC rubber patches and custom-shaped PVC patches.

PU Leather Motorcycle Patches: A Different Branding Finish

Hand holding a round tan number 23 logo patch to show scale and surface detail.

PU leather patches are an option for vintage-inspired apparel, fashion accessories and branded bags. They may be combined with embroidery or other suitable decoration methods after artwork and material review.

The finished appearance depends on the selected leather-like material, thickness, color, edge treatment and logo process.

Explore our custom embroidered PU leather patches and accessories.

Embroidery Techniques for Custom Biker Patches

Two embroidered patches may have the same overall dimensions but very different production costs, flexibility and visual effects. The amount of stitching, direction of stitches, base fabric and special details all affect the result.

Partial Embroidery vs. Full Embroidery Coverage

Partial embroidery leaves selected areas of the base fabric visible. This may be suitable for motorcycle club lettering, bold outlines, contrasting backgrounds and designs that do not require every surface to be stitched.

Full embroidery covers the main design surface with thread. It creates a dense, textured finish, but may increase stitch count, production time, weight and stiffness.

For large motorcycle back patches, the amount and distribution of embroidery should be considered together with the backing fabric. A large design with heavy thread coverage may behave differently from a smaller chest badge.

During quoting, coverage should be assessed from actual artwork rather than assuming that every patch needs 100% embroidery.

Flat Embroidery vs. 3D Raised Embroidery

Flat embroidery is suitable for many motorcycle club logos, rocker letters and multi-element illustrations. It allows the production team to control stitch direction and build detailed shapes across the fabric.

Selected bold lettering or simplified elements may be suitable for raised or 3D puff embroidery. However, foam-supported raised embroidery is not appropriate for every thin line, small letter or complex design.

We recommend reviewing the actual artwork before choosing a raised effect.

Metallic Thread & Specialty Details

Metallic-looking thread can add highlights to motorcycle wings, emblem outlines, vintage lettering or selected decorative elements.

Specialty threads should be evaluated for appearance, stitch coverage and durability. They do not always behave exactly like standard polyester embroidery thread.

For designs requiring metallic accents, consider our embroidered patch product range and request a material recommendation based on the desired effect.

Stitch Density, Small Text & Design Simplification

One of the most important production decisions is identifying which artwork details will remain legible at the final patch dimensions.

Motorcycle patch designs often contain flames, wheels, engines, chains, skulls, wings and layered lettering. These can create crowded stitch areas when reduced to small sizes.

Typical solutions include:

  • Increasing the patch size to retain important details.
  • Thickening fine strokes that would disappear during embroidery.
  • Adjusting letter spacing and small text.
  • Simplifying secondary details without changing the main design identity.
  • Using woven or printed construction for designs requiring finer visual detail.

Important: Artwork approval and production feasibility are separate matters. A design may look excellent on a computer screen but require changes before it can be reproduced accurately with physical thread.

Motorcycle Patch Size Guide: Back Patches, Rockers & Vest Placement

Custom biker patches should be sized for the actual garment rather than selected from a generic picture. Leather vests, denim cuts and motorcycle jackets vary in shoulder width, seams, panel shape and available space.

The following dimensions are planning examples, not fixed production limits or universally correct measurements.

Illustrative motorcycle patch size ranges
Patch Type Reference Size Sizing Consideration
Name or Chest Patch 2–4 in (approx. 5–10 cm) Letter readability and available chest area.
Small Club Emblem 3–6 in (approx. 8–15 cm) Logo detail and placement.
Curved Rocker 8–14 in (approx. 20–36 cm) Arc height, text length and matching center patch width.
Large Back Patch 10–15 in (approx. 25–38 cm) Actual vest back panel and complete patch layout.
Rally or Souvenir Patch 3–5 in (approx. 8–13 cm) Artwork complexity and intended merchandise.

How to Measure a Motorcycle Vest for a Back Patch

  1. Lay the vest flat: Use a flat surface without stretching the material.
  2. Measure the usable width: Check the space between seams, armholes or other construction features on the back panel.
  3. Measure the usable height: Identify the space below the collar and above the lower hem or other garment details.
  4. Allow edge clearance: Avoid placing the patch directly over difficult seams, pockets, heavy folds or hardware.
  5. Plan the complete layout: If you use top and bottom rockers, include the spaces between all patch components.
  6. Confirm at full scale: Use a paper printout or full-size artwork layout to check the appearance before production.

Why a Three-Piece Set Needs an Overall Layout

A center emblem measuring 11 inches wide does not mean that the complete three-piece set will fit within the same width or height. The top rocker may extend farther across the shoulders, while the bottom rocker and spacing increase the total vertical area.

Before confirming sizes, check the full patch set together on the intended vest.

Buyer tip: If your club uses different vest sizes, confirm whether all members will use one standardized patch set or whether multiple patch dimensions are necessary.

Best Backing & Border Options for Motorcycle Patches

Full Customization Service chart showing a yellow Racing Club shield patch and options for shape, size, artwork, colors, backing and packaging.

Backing determines how a patch is attached. Border finishing determines its outer appearance and helps control edge stability. Both should be chosen according to the material and use of the garment or accessory.

Sew-On Backing: Recommended for Leather Biker Vests

For traditional motorcycle club patches on leather or denim vests, sew-on backing is generally the most practical starting point.

It allows the patch to be stitched into place without relying solely on a heat-sensitive adhesive layer. The garment material, lining, patch size and seam arrangement should still be reviewed by the person performing the installation.

Large patches may need careful positioning and secure perimeter stitching to prevent lifting or movement.

Iron-On Backing: For Suitable Heat-Compatible Fabrics

Blue cloud and yellow lightning patch shown from the front and back

Iron-on patches use heat-activated adhesive. They can be convenient for compatible textiles, but successful bonding depends on the fabric, temperature, pressure, time and adhesive system.

We do not recommend treating iron-on backing as a universal installation method for leather motorcycle vests. Heat can affect leather finishes, coatings and adhesives. For leather garments, professional sewing is generally a safer option.

Hook-and-Loop Backing: Removable Gear Patches

Round yellow smiley chenille patch showing black hook and loop backing

Hook-and-loop backing is suitable for motorcycle bags, compatible equipment panels and garments designed with a matching loop surface.

It is useful when riders need to change identifiers or decorative patches. The hook-and-loop panel should be properly secured to the underlying product.

Merrowed Borders vs. Laser-Cut Edges

Merrowed borders create a wrapped stitched edge. They are suitable for many circles, rectangles, ovals, shields and conventional rocker shapes.

Laser-cut edges follow the designed outline and are useful for complex contours such as wings, unusual shields, decorative lettering and irregular silhouettes.

The best border depends on artwork geometry. Very narrow projections and complicated inside corners may require adjustment to create a practical finished edge.

For more information about shaped designs, explore our custom embroidered patch options.

Custom Motorcycle Patch Artwork, Colors & Design Preparation

Good artwork preparation helps reduce misunderstandings between the buyer and the production team. A clear specification should identify not only the visual design but also the finished size, materials and attachment requirements.

Artwork Formats We Can Review

Vector artwork such as AI, EPS, PDF or SVG is preferred. High-resolution PNG or JPG reference images may also be reviewed when vector files are not available.

For editable text, outlined fonts or clear font specifications are helpful. If an existing physical patch needs to be matched, front and back photographs with a ruler can help establish the required dimensions and construction.

Pantone Color References & Thread Matching

Buyers can provide Pantone references, approved thread cards or physical samples to communicate brand colors.

Embroidery thread is different from printed ink. Exact color reproduction depends on available thread colors, material, texture and lighting. Where a color is critical, we recommend approving the actual thread or a physical sample instead of relying only on a screen preview.

Converting Artwork into Embroidery

Embroidery digitizing translates graphic artwork into machine stitching instructions. The process considers stitch types, direction, density, underlay and design sequencing.

Not every detail in a printed illustration can be reproduced identically in embroidery. We review potential limitations and communicate recommended changes before the design is approved for manufacturing.

Existing Club Patch Reproduction

If you need to reproduce or reorder an existing motorcycle patch, please provide the approved artwork or an original sample whenever possible.

Useful reference details include exact width and height, thread colors, backing, border type, patch thickness and any previous specification records.

We may ask for confirmation that you have permission to reproduce third-party trademarks, club emblems, names or protected insignia. We do not assume that possession of a reference image establishes authorization.

International Motorcycle Patch Buyers

LOVECOLOUR is a custom patch manufacturer based in Guangzhou, China. We work with overseas sourcing teams and buyers serving the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and European markets.

For international orders, pricing and delivery arrangements are confirmed according to the finished specifications, shipping destination, package dimensions and agreed trade terms.

Bulk Motorcycle Club Patch Orders with Multiple Names & Designs

Club orders can be more complex than ordinary single-design patch orders. A group may require identical center emblems and rockers but different rider names, membership roles or chapter identifiers.

To prepare an accurate quotation, we recommend separating the order into shared components and individual variations.

Example specification structure for a multi-member motorcycle club order
Component Design Variation Information Required
Top Rocker Common club design Artwork, width, height, quantity and colors
Center Emblem Common club logo Artwork, dimensions, embroidery details and backing
Bottom Rocker Common or chapter-specific text Exact text, size and quantities by variation
Member Name Patch Individual names Spreadsheet with spelling and quantity per name
Special Identifier Role or member-specific variation Separate artwork and quantity for each version

Why this matters: One hundred patches of one design and one hundred patches divided across twenty designs may have different setup and unit-cost structures. The number of unique designs should therefore be specified alongside the total quantity.

Where separate packing by member or chapter is required, this should be included in the quotation request. Packing instructions can then be checked against the approved component list.

For additional information about quantity and cost factors, read our custom patch pricing and MOQ guide.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Motorcycle Patches

What is the best type of patch for a motorcycle leather vest?

Embroidered patches with sew-on backing are a common choice for traditional leather biker vests. They provide a classic stitched appearance and can be attached without relying solely on heat-activated adhesive. The best installation method should be confirmed according to the garment’s leather, lining and construction.

Can you manufacture complete three-piece motorcycle club patch sets?

Yes. We can review authorized artwork for matching top rockers, center emblems and bottom rockers. Each component is specified by size, shape, embroidery, colors, border and backing. The complete layout should be approved before production.

Can I order large custom embroidered motorcycle back patches?

Yes. Large embroidered back patches can be assessed for custom production. The workable finished dimensions depend on the artwork, production process and approved specification. For very large designs, embroidery coverage and fabric stability need particular attention.

What is the difference between embroidered and woven biker patches?

Embroidered patches have a more raised, textured surface and are well suited to bold logos, lettering and traditional club emblems. Woven patches have a smoother appearance and can reproduce finer lines and smaller text. The right choice depends on the desired appearance and artwork complexity.

Can motorcycle patches be made with PVC rubber?

Yes. Custom PVC patches are suitable for selected motorcycle accessories, backpacks, equipment and removable patch applications. They offer molded 2D or 3D effects but have a different weight, feel and attachment structure from embroidered fabric patches.

Are iron-on patches suitable for leather biker jackets?

Iron-on backing should not be assumed suitable for leather. Heat can affect leather finishes, coatings and adhesives. Sew-on installation is generally preferable for traditional leather motorcycle vests and jackets.

Can you make motorcycle patches with different rider names?

Yes. Personalized names or identifiers can be included in a custom order. Please provide the exact spelling, quantity and specification for each variation. The number of unique designs can affect production setup and pricing.

Can you reproduce an existing motorcycle club patch?

We can review approved artwork or a physical reference sample to assess matching requirements. The final result depends on the available artwork, material and original construction. Customers must have the appropriate rights or authorization to reproduce protected club emblems, trademarks and insignia.

What is the minimum order quantity for custom biker patches?

MOQ depends on the material, patch dimensions, design complexity and number of unique artwork versions. Embroidered and molded PVC patches may have different minimum quantities. Please send your artwork and estimated order quantity for a project-specific quotation.

How long does motorcycle patch production take?

Production time depends on artwork approval, sampling, material selection, order quantity and finishing requirements. Shipping transit time is separate from manufacturing time. We confirm a practical schedule after reviewing the complete order details.

Can you match colors for repeat motorcycle club patch orders?

We use approved artwork and production specifications as references for repeat orders. Where color consistency is particularly important, approved thread cards or physical samples provide a more reliable reference than screen colors alone. Minor differences between materials and thread batches may still require review.

Do you supply wholesale motorcycle patches to the USA, Canada, UK and Australia?

Yes. LOVECOLOUR is a China-based custom patch manufacturer serving international B2B buyers. We can discuss export packaging and available delivery arrangements according to your destination, quantity and project requirements.

Can you provide samples before a bulk motorcycle patch order?

Yes. Physical sampling is part of our custom manufacturing process. Sample charges, shipping and the approval schedule are confirmed according to the actual design and production requirements.

What artwork is required to get started?

AI, EPS, PDF or SVG vector files are preferred, but high-resolution images can also be reviewed. For an initial quotation, provide the design, desired dimensions, estimated quantity, application and delivery country. Visit our artwork preparation guide for more information.

Before it is quoted

What applies to every custom order.

These are the general rules for custom work from this factory, not figures for this item. Where the specification above carries a buying or lead-time note for this product, that note is the one that applies to it.

01

Artwork review

Logo proportion, small text, fine lines, stitch direction, density, thread colour, border, final size and backing are checked at the finished size before anything is quoted. If the artwork does not suit the process, we say so and propose the size, the simplification or the process that will hold it.

02

Sample approval

A physical sample is produced and approved before bulk, and the approved sample becomes the production standard for that run and for every reorder. Custom samples are usually chargeable.

03

Minimum order

A standard MOQ applies to each product; for many custom items it starts at around 100 pcs, with limited flexibility by process and order structure. Below the standard MOQ the unit price can rise, so the figure is confirmed for your specification rather than published as one number.

04

Lead time

Bulk production usually takes 7–12 days after artwork approval. Rush orders are reviewed case by case against capacity, material, process, artwork status, sample requirements and shipping method, and are not promised before that check.

05

Inspection

Colour matching, logo proportion, small-text clarity, stitching and thread colour, dimensions, backing, material, quantity and packing are compared with the approved sample, and how deep the inspection goes follows the risk of the order.

06

Packing & shipping

Individual, OPP or custom bag, backer card, barcode, SKU label, carton mark, retail, neutral and white-label packing — packed for the route the goods take after the factory.
