Start with the Outline, Not the Backing
For this product, the shape drives the first manufacturing decision. Send the finished width and height together with the proposed outer contour. If you have a separate cut line, include it in the artwork. Mark which projections, corners and gaps are essential to the design and which may be adjusted.
A digital outline can contain very sharp points, deep inward corners or narrow connections between larger sections. These features should be reviewed at actual patch size. A slight contour adjustment may protect an important visual detail and make the finished shape easier to produce repeatedly.

Which Edge Finish Suits Your Shape?
Merrowed edge
A merrowed edge creates a raised, wrapped border and suits many simple or gently shaped outlines. If that classic badge appearance matters more than following every small turn in the logo, the artwork can be reviewed for a merrowed construction.
Precision-cut edge
A precision-cut style follows a more detailed outer contour and is often considered when the silhouette is the main feature. It can suit a letter, character or irregular logo shape that would lose its identity inside a standard border. Edge treatment, embroidery placement and backing still need to be agreed in the sample.

When Should the Artwork Be Simplified?
Not every line in a vector file should become a physical projection on the patch. An extremely thin tail, tiny separated point or deep notch may be difficult to handle as part of a small textile product. The better option may be to keep that detail in embroidery while simplifying the outside contour.
Small lettering needs its own review. If the brand mark contains fine text or dense detail, increasing the finished size or comparing it with our woven process may produce a clearer result. We make this recommendation from the artwork rather than assuming one process fits every logo.
What to Send for a Useful Shape Proof
- Original artwork: Provide the clearest available file and identify the final approved design.
- Finished dimensions: Give both maximum width and maximum height, not a single approximate size.
- Cut-line intention: Show whether the patch should follow the logo closely or leave a visible border.
- Critical details: Mark any point, gap, letter or feature that must remain unchanged.
- Color references: Include references for the thread and background fabric.
- Application: Explain whether the patch will be sewn on, heat applied or attached another way.
- Quantity and variations: List each shape or colorway and its required quantity.
Approve the Physical Silhouette
A digital proof is useful for agreeing on the proposed cut line. The physical sample then shows what that outline looks like in thread and fabric. Check the overall proportions, smallest sections, corners, border, thread colors and the distance between stitching and the finished edge.

What Changes the Wholesale Price?
Size and order quantity matter, but the outline can also affect the amount of cutting and finishing work. Stitch count, embroidery coverage, color changes, backing, the number of separate designs and packing requirements also influence the quote. A simple shield and a detailed character silhouette with the same maximum width are not necessarily the same production job.
